Hagi Claims MAAC Water Polo Rookie of the Week Honors

Feb. 19, 2008

Loudonville, N.Y. - Siena water polo freshman utility Nicole Hagi was named MAAC Water Polo Rookie of the Week as announced by conference headquarters this afternoon. Hagi led the Saints in their first four games of the season over the weekend tallying a team best four goals and seven steals.

"This is a great honor for Nicole," noted head coach Ellen Howe. "She played really well this weekend and I feel she is very deserving of this award."

After posting two assists in her collegiate debut against national power Maryland, Hagi scored a goal in each of the Saints remaining two games of the Princeton Invitational on Saturday against Bucknell and the host Tigers.

On Sunday, the 5'2" native of Kapolei, Hawaii concluded a stellar weekend posting her second multi point performance and first multi goal game, scoring two goals while adding an assist in a narrow 7-5 loss to George Washington. In total for the weekend, Hagi notched four goals and added three assists for a total of seven points.

Hagi and the Saints will return to action on Saturday morning in Erie, Pa. for a tournament against Gannon, Mercyhurst and Penn State (Behrend).
