Saints Stumble in Season Finale

April 22, 2007

LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. - The Saints dropped the final two contests of the regular-season this afternoon in Brooklyn, N.Y. In the opening match Siena fell to Wagner 12-9, and then in the season finale the Saints dropped a 13-4 decision to Marist. Siena finishes the 2007 campaign with a 12-14 overall record and a 1-9 mark in the MAAC.

Junior center Caitlin Smith (Miami Springs, Fla./Miami Springs) posted a team high four goals in the opening contest against the Seahawks, while senior Anne LaFex (Syracuse, N.Y./Westhill) chipped in three goals in the losing effort.

The Saints hung with Wagner through the first half as they entered intermission facing a 5-4 deficit. Siena battled hard in the final two quarters, however, the Seahawks five goal fourth quarter proved to be too much for the Saints.

Kaedy Graves (Lake Worth, Fla./Lake Worth Community), a junior goaltender, tallied an impressive 11 saves over three quarters in net. Senior Jeannette Ogren (Homewood, Ill./Homewood-Flossmoor) was brilliant on defense as she contained Wagner's top scoring threat.

In the final game of the regular-season, the Saints had a hard time getting the offense going. Sophomore utility Lauren Garrigan (Kailua, Hawaii/Kamehameha) managed a team high two goals on the afternoon.

Garrigan put Siena on the scoreboard early in the second quarter, but the Red Foxes retaliated with seven goals of their own to take a 10-1 lead into halftime. The Saints three second half goals would not be enough as Marist swam off with a nine goal victory.
