Siena Falls 8-5 at the Hands of Claremont-Mudd-Scripps
Feb. 27, 2007 CLAREMONT, CALIF. - Despite a two-goal performance from sophomore Lauren Garrigan, Siena (4-2) dropped a three-goal decision after falling to Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, 8-5, in Claremont, California Monday. Garrigan was aided by teammates Caitlin Smith, Lauren Biehle and Anne LaFex who supplied the Saints' offensive production on the day. "I thought we played very well tonight, considering we came out flat at the beginning of the game," head coach Rob Swingle said. "Overall, I'm pretty proud of our girls and the way that they played." With the Saints down 3-0 with 2:33 remaining in the first period of action, Garrigan got the Saints on the board with her first goal of the evening utilizing a 6-on-5 opportunity as she fired the ball into the back of the net to make the score 3-1. Following a Claremont goal, Garrigan retaliated with just 43 seconds remaining in the first period, slicing the deficit to two, 4-2. Junior center Caitlin Smith made the game 5-3 at the 4:46 mark in the second period before the Saints exited the pool down 6-3 at halftime. Following nearly eight minutes of a stagnant third period of play, sophomore Lauren Biehle inched the Saints closer to tying the game after scoring with 43 seconds left in the third to make the score, 6-4 in favor of Claremont. Claremont proved to be too much though, as a late Anne LaFex goal with 4:49 remaining in the fourth was too little too late, as the Athenas claimed an 8-5 victory over the Saints. Panning across the stat line, freshman utility Gina Guevera led the Saints with three assists and three steals, while Garrigan tallied three ejections drawn. Splitting time in goal for Siena during the first half was Kaedy Graves who collected five saves, while Lisa Reilly amassed eight during her second half in the net.
