Shaker tennis star Jasleen Sandhu has signed a National Letter of Intent to play at Siena beginning next fall. Sandhu earned the #7 ranking in New York at the State girls' tennis Tournament held in Manlius.

Siena women's head coach Tim O'Brien was overjoyed with the signing. "We are very excited to have Jasleen join our team," he said. "She is an outstanding student-athlete and simply represents the best there is in high school tennis."

Sandhu represented Shaker High for Section II in the State Tournaments for six consecutive years. She was a team captain in 2007 and received MVP honors three consecutive years. Sandhu was also given the Dunkin' Donuts Player of the Week and Times Union Athlete of the Week award.

Sandhu is the president of Shaker's Key Club, a member of the National Honor Society and was given both the Student Government Leadership Award and the Physical Education Department Leadership Award.

Sandhu said her inspiration was local tennis icon Inderjeet Singh who: "introduced me to the sport. He and my high school coach, Gerry Cuva, have been supportive of all my efforts over the years. I am very excited to play next year at Siena."

Sandhu will get her first taste of Siena when she attends a Presidential Academic Grant weekend in February.

The Siena women's tennis team's spring season kicks off as they take on Colgate in Hamilton, N.Y. on February 23. Match time is set for 10 A.M.
