Siena Tennis Reaches Out
Nov. 24, 2002 ARBOR HILL, N.Y. - November 22 - In the spirit of the Franciscan tradition upon which Siena College was founded, the Siena Women's Tennis Team reached out to the local 15-Love organization this past week. 15-Love, who's mission is "to reach out in a loving, caring way to youth of the Capital Region, especially those in the inner cities," uses tennis as a medium to teach the values of education, to foster multicultural relationships and to instill good sportsmanship. On Wednesday, the 15 Love teaching staff visited Siena where, they observed a team practice and also received instruction on the current teaching and practice methods used by the Siena team. The following day, team member, Brooke Fisher joined members of the 15-Love staff at the Arbor Hill Elementary School in Albany where she worked with the staff as they provided tennis instruction to a group of students from the school.
"It was a lot of fun," Fisher said afterward. "The kids all seemed to be enjoy themselves. Afterward, we talked with the kids about the upcoming Thanksgiving Holiday and how the Native Americans and the Pilgrims got together to give thanks for the good harvest."
