Siena Tennis Goes Fahr

Sept. 26, 2001

Jennifer Fahr, the current senior and co-captain of the Siena College Women's Tennis Team is continuing in her families tradition of tennis excellence at Siena. Jenn's grandfather, Paul T. Fahr was Captain of Siena's first Varsity Tennis Team in 1942.

A Watervliet native, Paul was a well known player who won many area tournaments. His studies at Siena were interrupted by World War II when he was inducted into the U.S. Air Force. While stationed at Elgin Field in Florida, he continued his tennis career as Captain of the base tennis team.

Jenn's uncle, Bill Fahr '53 along with Dan Sleasman '68 were instrumental in developing and running the Reunion Weekend Tennis Tournament. Besides being a standout tennis player at Siena, Bill was undefeated at Catholic Central High School (Troy, N.Y.), going 72-0 during his scholastic career. He was recently inducted into the Catholic Central Athletic Hall of Fame.

Jenn's cousin, Bob Fahr '82 also continued his tennis career upon graduation from Siena. Bob is currently Captain of his 'Team Tennis' team and has led them to the National Team Tennis Championships in 1998 and 2000.

A graduate of Mac Arthur School on Long Island, where she was a member of the tennis team for four years and captain as a senior, Jenn chose to follow in her families stories legacy and continue her tennis career here at Siena. She became co-captain of the Saints last year, and is a secondary education/spanish major. As a junior, she earned a 3.68 GPA.

"Jenn is an important member of our team," Jeff Bloomberg, the women's head coach said. "She contributes both on and off the court. Her leadership is invaluable. I fully agree with the article in the "Levittown Sports Spotlight" that said: 'Jenn finds time to do everything and do it well.'"
