Saints Bow to Marist 5-3
April 10, 2001 Poughkeepsie, N.Y. - The Siena women's tennis team fell flat after its upset victory over Fairfield, losing 5-3 to Marist College at the New York Valley Club. The Saints won first doubles 8-3 and both top singles matches behind the outstanding play of Nikki Mayer (Latham, N.Y./Shaker) and Andrea Disponzio (Farmingdale, N.Y./Farmingdale). Mayer marched through Marist's first singles with a 6-0, 6-1 straight set victory. Disponzio posted a 6-1, 6-3 win after falling behind 2-0 to start the second set. In fourth singles, sophomore Victoria Dunham (Long Beach, N.Y./Sacred Heart) lost a close hard-fought match to the Red Foxes' Kate Szymonski 6-4, 7-5. Also playing well in defeat was Eileen Gallocher (Bayside, N.Y./St. Francis Prep) in fifth singles. Gallocher dropped the set 7-5, and was tied at four in the second set before the match was called due to darkness.
