Saints Place Four on All-Academic Team

April 22, 2002

The Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference selected its 2002 women's tennis all-academic team prior to its annual championships at the National Tennis Center in Flushing Meadows, N.Y., a listing that included four members of the Siena women's tennis program. Colleen Brady, Betsy Brookins, Anne Burak and Andrea Disponzio were each named to the 32 member squad.

Brady, a senior political science major carries a 3.20 grade point average. The captain saw most of her action at doubles throughout her career where she carried a 23-game winning streak into the MAAC Championships.

Brookins, a sophomore biochemistry major holds a 3.62 GPA. The Saints number three singles player boasted a 7-2 record this spring, while also seeing action at doubles.

Burak, a junior economics major owns a 3.63 GPA in economics. The third year talent was used exclusively at doubles where she contributed to several team victories this spring.

Disponzeo, a sophomore economics major with a 3.52 grade point average is widely recognized as one of the league's top talents. The Saints number two singles player was 6-3 this spring and also paired with top single Nikki Mayer to form one of the conference's best doubles groupings.

To be eligible for the MAAC All-Academic Team, a student-athlete must complete two semesters at their institution, be a starter or significant reserve and hold a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 on a 4.0 scale.
