Deuel, Mayer Garner MAAC Weekly Tennis Honors

March 25, 2008

Loudonville, N.Y.: Siena men's tennis player Jeremy Deuel and women's player Sarah Mayer were named the MAAC Men's and Women's Tennis Players of the Week this afternoon by league officials. The duo each won all of their singles matches over the past week.

Deuel ran his singles and doubles winning streaks to three matches with a 7-5 and 6-4 triumph at top singles over Michal Engdahl of South Dakota State in the Saints' final spring tune-up this week in Orlando. Deuel finished the trip with a 3-1 record at both singles and doubles.

In the South Dakota match he also teamed with classmate Nick Rutherford to post an 8-5 win at top doubles. Deuel owns a 9-4 record this season with all 13 contests coming at top singles.

Mayer won both her matches at top singles this past week, improving to 11-6 on the year in singles play (all at #1 singles). She began the week with a convincing 6-2 and 6-0 win over Debbie Brown of Wisconsin-LaCrosse. The next day, she posted an impressive 6-2 and 6-2 win over Dayton's Allesa Detroy. Both victories came in Orlando, Fla. as the Saints completed their four match spring trip.
