Old Chtham Tennis Club Hosts Siena College Women's Tennis Fundraiser

Feb. 18, 2002

For the second time in 2 weeks, The Old Chatham Tennis Club and its members showed their support for the Siena College Women's Tennis Program. Last Saturday evening, 8 male club members joined 13 Siena women in a mixed doubles round robin. The event raised over $200.00 for the Tennis Program. Again, as it was 2 weeks ago, the court time was donated by the club.

The round robin was won by club member Ron Frering and his Siena partners Eileen Gallocher and Anne Burak. In addition to getting the opportunity to play with Eileen and Anne, Ron took home the top prize, a can of tennis balls signed by all the members of the Siena team.

Finishing second was the team of member Jim Healy and Siena senior, Jenn Fahr. About half way through the evening, Jim decided to read Jenn's tennis biography and noted that Jenn is more known for her singles play than her doubles.

"Why didn't you tell me Jenn was a longshot in doubles," Healy asked Siena Coach, Jeff Bloomberg?

"You didn't ask," Bloomberg replied .

It really didn't matter, Jenn showed she was up to the task as she carried Jim to a second place finish.

Also participating were members Elike Takyi, Jack Krauskopf, Ken Esrick, Chip Frank and Rodney Eggleston along with club pro Jay Penney. Everybody enjoyed pizza and soft drinks throughout the evening.

The women leave Tuesday, February 27th on their spring training trip to South Florida where they will play 2 matches against local colleges. When they return on March 2nd, they will use the rest of the month to prepare for their April 1st season opener against Manhattan College.
