Sept. 28, 2008

Senior Sarah Mayer and freshman Jasleen Sandhu each advanced in to the second round of play in singles competition at the Eastern Invitationals this weekend in West Point, N.Y. Mayer was knocked out of contention at top singles in one of the Tournament's most exciting matches, falling in a marathon tiebreaker to Army's Anne Houghton 2-6, 6-3 and 18-16.

Mayer had moved into Saturday's Second Round match against Houghton with a 6-3 and 6-1 win over Marist's Erin McCarth in Friday's First Round.

Sandhu also defeated a Marist player in the first round, topping Mirelva Colon 6-1 and 6-4. She lost her second match to Stony Brook's Aalome Mikervalidze 6-0 and 6-1.

Jen Messing, Katie Scullin and Alexis Sigeti were each defeated in the first round of singles play. Siena's two doubles teams also suffered setbacks in the first round.
