Vermont Tops Siena 4-3 in Women's Tennis Action

Sept. 25, 2001

LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. - Vermont held off a late Siena (2-1) rally to post a win in non-conference women's tennis action in Loudonville this afternoon. Maika Foukal's late victory over Siena's Betsy Brookins secured the win.

Playing top singles, Siena's Nikki Mayer (Latham, N.Y./Shaker) won for the third consecutive time. Sophomore Andrea Disponzeo (Farmingdale, N.Y./Farmingdale) defended second singles for the Saints defeating Joanna Kahn 6-1, 6-3. Brooke Fisher posted the Saints other singles victory in dramatic fashion, battling back from a 5-7 first set loss to claim 7-5 and 10-4 wins.

Alie Taylor and Liz DeCurtis joined Foukal with singles victories for the Catamounts.

In doubles action the pairing of Mayer and Disponzeo bested Kahn and Molly Moran for a Siena win. Susannah O'Brien and Ali Taylor combined with Danielle Fleury and Ali Pelkey to post the determining doubles victories for Vermont.
