Fairfield Tops Women's Tennis 4-3

April 16, 2005

The Fairfield University women's tennis team improved to 3-4 in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) with a 4-3 win over Siena College on Saturday afternoon at the Fairfield University Tennis Courts.

Fairfield (8-13, 3-4 MAAC) took the doubles point with wins by Diana Webb and Christrina Chacharone at No. 1 doubles, 9-7, and Tiffany Marsocci and Michelle Geller at No. 3 doubles, 8-3.

Webb, started the singles match off on the right foot, for the Stags with a 6-3, 6-0 win over Karina Davis at No. 1 singles.

But, Siena won the next three matches as Julia Lebedev beat Megan Stauffer 6-1, 6-3, at No. 2 singles, Brooke Fisher beat Chacharone, 6-1, 6-1, at No. 3 singles, and Meghan Slenkamp beat Alexis Accomando 6-2, 6-2, at No. 4 singles.

But, a 7-6 (6), 6-3 win by Marsocci at No. 5 singles, and a 6-0, 6-0 win by Cristin Zaccareo over Molly Scullinn at No. 6 singles, sealed the match for the Stags.

"It was a very disappointing loss," Head Coach Tim O'Brien said. "It places us in the bottom half of the MAAC for the year. Not having Denisa can not be used as an excuse for our loss. We had many opportunities to win the match that went abegging."
