Siena women end trip with 6-1 win over Saint Peter's

The Siena Women's Tennis Team beat MAAC rival Saint Peter's today to end their "southern" road trip with at .500. They had lost the day before to Loyola of Maryland by an identical 6-1 score. Leading the Saints was Nikki Mayer at #1 singles with straight set victories over Loyola's Nancy Turnblacer, 6-4, 6-1 and Saint Peter's Tijana Tiodrovic 6-3, 6-2. She also combined with Andrea Disponzio to capture #3 doubles over the Saint Peter's duo of Tiodrovic and Marija Djukic 9-7. Other top singles performances were turned in by the Saints included that by Disponzio, at #2. The 'Silent Assassin' bounced back against Saint Peter's Melissa Mottola with a convincing 6-1, 6-0 victory after losing a heartbreaker to Loyola's Carolyn Pilkington 6-4,6-4 the day before. Betsy Brookins, playing #3 singles for the Saint's at Saint Peter's got a hard earned win over Marija Djukic. After losing the 1st set, 6-3, Brookin's came back with nearly flawless tennis to take the next 2 by identical 6-1 scores. Brooke Fisher, who moved down to #4 singles from 3, also pulled out a straight set victory, 6-1, 7-6(7-3). In doubles, Siena's #2 team of Fisher and Vicki Dunham sealed the doubles point for the Saint's when they rolled over the Peahen's Djukic and Priscilla Davies, 8-3. The women, now 3-2 in the MAAC next face the Marist Red Foxes at Siena on Tuesday, April 9th at 3:30PM.
