Women's Swimming Remains in Fourth Place Following Day Two of MAAC Championships
February 16, 2001 Baltimore, Md. - The Siena women's swimming team held on to their fourth place standing following the second day of competition at the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Swimming and Diving Championships being held at the Fitness and Aquatic Center at Loyola College. The Saints entered the day in fourth place with 120.5 points, and maintained that position with a total of 264.50 following today. Siena trails Rider with 519 points, which is 19 points ahead of defending MAAC champion Marist who stands in second place with 500 points. Loyola is in third with 369 points, followed by Siena (264.50), St. Peter's (245.50), Iona (202), Niagara (197), Fairfield (136), Canisius (112) and Manhattan (60). Freshman Grace Turman's (Oxford, Conn.) third place finish in the 1000 yard and fourth place finish in the 200 yard freestyle earned her a combined 31 points on the day. Turman posted a time of 10:33.97 in the 1000 and 1:59.27 in the 200 in her top two individual performances. She later teamed up with Kelly Pangburn (West Seneca, N.Y.), Kelly Collins (Sparta, N.J.), and Raina Paul (Toronto, Canada) on the Saints' 800 yard freestyle relay team which posted a third place finish with a time of 8:02.23. Kelly Pangburn also turned in an impressive performance in the 1000 yard freestyle with a time of 10:24.96 that gave her a second place finish. Siena's Martha Kroll (Oxford, Conn.) also had a solid day in the pool, earning a fifth place finish in the 100 yard backstroke in addition to a sixth place finish with the Saints' 200 yard medley relay team.
The Saints will look to continue their success today in the final day of competition in the three day meet.
