Siena Names Greg Brown Women's Swimming Coach

June 27, 2006

LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. - Siena College director of athletics John D'Argenio announced the hiring of Greg Brown as the department's new women's swimming coach. The 2002 Lycoming College graduate brings nearly eight years of coaching experience to Siena's program.

"Greg brings a new energy and direction to our program" D'Argenio said. "He has great experience coaching a variety of athletes and we feel he is the perfect person to lead our swimmers to a MAAC Championship."

Upon his graduation from Lycoming, Brown served as an assistant coach the University of Vermont during the 2002-2003 season. He assisted in all aspects of the program, focusing on team development and recruiting.

In the fall of 2002, Brown also took over as the head swimming coach at the Greater Burlington YMCA. He oversaw a team that consisted of upwards of 75 swimmers during the fall/winter season. He qualified a record 10 swimmers for the 2005 YMCA Long Course Championship. At the meet, six of those were named YMCA All-Americans.

Brown also helped swimmers from Greater Burlington qualify for the YMCA National Meet in the spring and summer of 2003, 2004, 2005 and 2006.

Additionally, Brown served as the head swim coach for both Burlington Country Club (2003-2004) and Quarry Hill Club (2005) in their summer recreation programs which competed in the Champlain Valley Stream League.

As an undergraduate history major at Lycoming, Brown was a four-year letterman in swimming. He was the team captain in 2002 and the Coaches Award/Team MVP in 2001. He was a five-time Middle Atlantic silver medalist and two-time bronze medalist.

Brown takes over a program that posted a 3-7 record in 2005-2006 and finished in seventh place in the MAAC Championships.
