Siena Defeats Sacred Heart, 79-59, but fall to Fairfield, 93-47 in Dual Meet

Fairfield, Conn. - The Siena Saints swimming and diving team captured their first victory of the season Saturday afternoon, defeating the Sacred Heart Pioneers, 79-59 at the RecPlex in Fairfield Saturday afternoon. The Saints went 1-1 on the day after dropping the first portion of the dual meet to host, Fairfield, 93-47.

Freshman standout Samantha Coratti (Hyde Park, N.Y./Our Lady of Lourdes) tallied a second-place finish in the 200-meter backstroke event, pacing the pool with a time of 2:35.79, while the team of Megan Dobbins (Huntington, Conn./Lauralton Hall Academy), Allison O'Keefe (Southington, Conn./Saint Paul Catholic), Meaghan Brauer (Clifton Park, N.Y./Shenendehowa) and Rachel McShane (Baldwin, N.Y./Sacred Heart Academy) clocked a collective time of 1:54.79 to capture first-place in the 200-meter freestyle event.

Fairfield's Brittany Hunter captured three first-place events on the day to lead all swimmers. Hunter registered a time of 9:34.00 in the 800-meter freestyle event, a 4:37.39 in the 400-meter freestyle event and a time of 2:31.24 in the 200-meter Individual Medley event.

The Saints have just over a month to prepare before they travel west to Lewiston, N.Y. to face the Niagara Purple Eagles on January 20, before facing the Canisius Golden Griffs on January 21 in Buffalo. The Niagara meet is scheduled for a 1 p.m. start, while the Canisius meet is scheduled to kickoff at 10 a.m.
