Ferro and Kaminsky Join Siena Softball Program

Nov. 26, 2008

Head softball coach Deanna Parks received two National Letters of Intent during the recent early signing period. Amanda Ferro, a local product out of Shenendehowa High School in Clifton Park, and Kayla Kaminsky, who attends Susquehanna Valley High School, each gave their written commitment to play softball for the Saints starting next season.

"Mandy and Kayla come from two of the top high school programs in the state, and they know what it takes to win," Parks said. "Both are well-coached and have high expectations for themselves. They are equally committed to academics, which makes them a great fit for our program. We are excited to see them in Siena uniforms, and can't wait to see what they accomplish during their collegiate careers."

Ferro was a First Team All State selection this past season after guiding the Plainsmen to the Section II Championship and a regional runner-up performance. The pitcher/outfielder also racked up Section II All Star accolades, First Team Albany Times Union and Troy Record honors and was named the MVP of the Suburban Council. As a sophomore in 2007, Ferro was a Second Team Albany Times Union selection and a Third Team pick by the Troy Record after helping Shen to a second place NYSPHSAA finish in the state championships.

As a junior, Ferro hit .368 with 12 RBI and posted a stellar 21-2 record in the circle with 206 strikeouts and a 0.76 ERA. She was additionally a First Team All-State selection in field hockey and also lettered in basketball at Shen where she was a National Honor Society member and a USAA Who's Who in Science and American Scholar selection in 2008.

"Mandy is one of the top softball players in the state, and we are thrilled that she has decided to stay close to home," Parks said. "She is a tremendous athlete, who works extremely hard. She really came into her own as a pitcher last season and put up some truly impressive numbers. An aggressive hitter with exceptional speed, Mandy will be a force at the plate. "

Kaminsky will add depth to the corners after a standout scholastic career that included three NYPHSSA Class B State Championships. She hits .350 and led the team in RBI as a junior, earning all Division and Team defensive MVP honors. As a freshman in 2006, she was an All Conference pick and as a sophomore she was named All Division and Team defensive MVP. She batted .347 with eight doubles, one triple , 16 runs and 14 RBI for the Conklin Raiders travelling team this past summer.

Kaminsky is a two-sport athlete In high school who advanced to the state tennis tournament as a doubles participant. She too was a National Honor Society selection.

"Kayla hits with power to all fields, and will add some pop to our lineup," Parks said. "She's a very solid defensive infielder, who could play either corner for us."
