Local Product Carrie Getz Named to NFCA All-Region Second Team

May 23, 2003

Junior Carrie Getz (Slingerlands, N.Y./Bethlehem) was selected to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association Northeast All-Region Second Team. Getz finished the season ranked seventh nationally and tops in the Northeast with a .462 batting average.

The Saints everyday leadoff hitter collected a school-record 60 hits (59 singles) in 130 at bats this season. She added 16 stolen bases, the second highest total in any year, and 24 runs-the seventh best single season total in school history. Her .462 batting average was the highest by a Saint since 1980. Getz was the main reason behind the Saints late season push to the Conference Championships, batting .571 and stealing 10 bases in 10 attempts as Siena closed the final week of the season with a 7-1 mark to qualify for their first MAAC Tournament since 1995.

Getz was among just three players from the MAAC honored by the NFCA. MAAC Pitcher of the Year Melissa Santos (Fairfield) and MAAC Player of the Year Ellen Sarosy (Fairfield) joined Getz on the Second Team.
