LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. - Siena College ranked sixth in the MAAC preseason coaches' poll for the 2008 softball season. Senior Jennifer Granato (Clifton Park, N.Y.) was named to the MAAC Preseason Softball Team.
Canisius was ranked first with 76 points in the poll. Siena came in sixth out of the nine league teams with 33 points. Siena finished last season with an overall record of 11-25 and 7-9 in the MAAC.
Granato earned a spot on the 13-member all-league team after batting .385 and hitting 12 homeruns and 30 RBI last season. Granato was also named to the 2007 MAAC Softball First Team last spring.
Siena is returning 12 of 18 players for the upcoming season. The Saints are only losing one starting position player and one pitcher.
Canisius had the most players named to the MAAC Preseason Team with three, including the Preseason Player of the Year, Katie Miranto (North Tonawanda, N.Y.). Miranto posted a .371 (52-for-140) batting average. She recorded nine doubles, seven homers, five triples and 27 RBIs. Miranto also set a school record with 44 runs scored.
