April 20, 2008

Box Score

LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. - Jamie Piela pitched a one-hit shutout in game one and drove in three runs in game two to help the Saints take both games of the doubleheader against Saint Peter's College (5-31, 5-7) in Loudonville Sunday afternoon. Siena (12-24, 4-6) softball won 1-0 and 6-3. The Saints have won five of their last six games.

Game one was a pitcher's duel between Piela and Tricia Reingle. Piela (6-9) kept the Peahens off the scoreboard, giving up only one hit and two walks. She struck out four.

Reingle also threw a complete game, but allowed one run on three hits and four walks. She struck out seven.

Siena's only run of the game came when Jennifer Granato was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. Renee Clavette scored the winning run.

In game two, Chrissy Gannon gave the Peahens the first lead of the game in the fifth when she singled to right field, driving in Elizabeth Novak.

The Saints answered with three runs in the bottom half when Andrea Piela reached on a fielder's choice with the throw going home to try and get Stacie Sueda. The throw was wide of the plate, allowing Sueda to tie the game. Jamie Piela followed with a two-run single and gave the Saints a 3-1 lead after five innings.

Saint Peter's fought back in the sixth with an RBI single from pinch hitter Jackie Cross. Christie Crowell drove in another run with a sacrifice fly to centerfield scoring Samantha Gable.

Siena broke the 3-3 tie in the bottom of the sixth when Olivia Calcagnini drove in Emily Snow with a pinch hit single. Andrea Piela tacked on an insurance run with an RBI single, scoring Clavette. Then with the bases loaded, Jamie Piela worked a two-out walk that forced in Sueda.

Lauren Shaheen (5-8) earned the complete game win, allowing three runs (two earned) on five hits. She struck out five.

The Saints return to action Tuesday when they host Sacred Heart at 3 p.m.
