Softball Downs FDU, Falls to Hartford in Florida

March 17, 2008

Final Stats

Five Saints had a multi-hit game in the opener as the Siena softball team posted an easy 14-1 win over Fairleigh Dickinson in the Rebel Spring Games Monday afternoon in Orlando. The Saints dropped their second game of the afternoon 10-0 to Hartford.

Lauren Weingart went 3-for-4 with two runs and three RBI to lead Siena's offense. Andrea Piela, Jenny McNulty, Stacy Landini and Courtney Brinkman each went 2-for-3. Landini drove in three runs and Brinkman had two RBI.

Siena jumped out to a 7-0 lead in their first at bat, providing more than enough support for starter Jamie Piela who picked up the complete game win with five innings of four-hit, one-run ball. Piela stuck out seven and walked just one. She also went 1-for-4 at the plate with three RBI.

Courtney Mahan laid down a pair of perfectly executed squeeze bunts, finishing 0-0 with two RBI.

In the second game Hartford freshman Amanda Singer earned a complete game, two-hit shutout in the circle. Only Weingart and Granato hit safely for Siena.

Lauren Shaheen suffered the loss pitching 3.2 innings while allowing eight runs (three earned) and striking out three.

The Saints continue play tomorrow morning in the Rebel Games against Rhode Island (9 a.m.) and Cornell (11 a.m.)
