Deanna Parks enters her third season as head coach for the Saints. Parks finished her second season at Siena with an overall record of 16-33 and 5-11 in the MAAC. The Saints finished seventh in the league. In her two years at Siena, Parks has an overall record of 27-58 and 12-20 in the MAAC. Before Siena, Parks spent two years as head coach at SUNY Oneonta. Parks guided the Red Dragons to a 40-37 overall record. In her last year, the team went 19-21 and earned a berth in the SUNYAC Tournament. Parks went to Oneonta after eight seasons at the University of Akron where she coached the program to a record of 224-179-2 including a 119-80-1 mark in the Mid-American Conference. She took over the softball program at Akron in 1996 after three seasons at Salisbury (Md.) State. In her first season with the Zips she led the team to a 29-22 record and an appearance in the MAC tournament. Akron, which won 30 or more games three times during Parks tenure, made five MAC tournament appearances and won two regular season titles (1998 and 2002) during her stay. The Zips played in one MAC tournament championship game in 2002, losing to Central Michigan to finish the year 30-17. At Akron, Parks' squads were consistently recognized by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association for academic excellence. The Zips had 19 Academic All-MAC selections including seven in 2002 in Parks time at Akron. While at Salisbury (Md.) State University Parks compiled a 60-43 mark over three seasons while winning a Capital Athletic Conference championship in 1995. That year, the Sea Gulls won a then-school-record 25 games with Parks being named conference coach of the year. She also compiled a 69-55 mark as women's volleyball coach. Parks is a 1988 graduate of Kent State University where she earned her Bachelor of Science degree in journalism while starring for the Golden Flashes softball team. A First Team All-Mideast Region player in 1986 and All-MAC selection in 1987, Parks still holds the Kent State record for career bases on balls (79) and triples in a season (eight in 1985). She earned a Master of Arts degree in sport administration in 1995 from KSU and was inducted into the University's Athletic Hall of Fame in 1996. Parks also spent one season (1992-93) as an assistant coach at Penn State, following a four-year tenure as an assistant at her alma mater. |
