Patti Carroll and Jay Godbole Named November Student-Athletes of the Month

Dec. 11, 2007

LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. - Junior women's soccer goalkeeper Patti Carroll and men's tennis standout Jay Godbole were named Leo Dufort Student-Athletes of the Month for November. The duo helped their respective teams significantly on the playing field this fall, while achieving great success in the classroom.

Carroll, a local product from Middle Gove, N.Y., started 14 games in net for the Saints this season. She helped anchor the Siena defensive unit harboring a 1.83 goals against average. Carroll recorded two shutouts during the 2007 campaign. She currently carries a 4.0 cumulative grade point average majoring in physics. Carroll, a MAAC All-Academic honoree, was recently named to the ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District I Second Team for her excellence in both the classroom and on the playing field.

Godbole, a native of Clifton Park, N.Y., has been a consistent performer on the men's tennis team over his first two years with the program. During the Saints fall season, Godbole was a fixture in the #4 spot in singles action posting three victories coming over regional foes Sacred Heart, Holy Cross and Wagner. He also finished with three victories in doubles play. Godbole carries a 3.51 cumulative grade point average in accounting.

The Leo Dufort Student-Athlete of the Month Award is presented nine times annually (September-May) throughout the academic year. The award recognizes exemplary achievements in both academics and athletics. The late Leo Dufort received a B.S. in marketing and management from Siena in August of 1977. His entire academic career was completed on a part-time basis beginning in the spring of 1961, as a married adult while at the same time raising five children. He passed away suddenly of a heart attack while cross country skiing in February of 1993. His wife Jeanine wanted to do something to immortalize his memory. The original plaque was donated to athletics and the department began the Leo Dufort Student-Athlete of the Month Award to help carry out his legacy. Dufort graduated from Catholic Central High School in 1954, was a Navy Veteran (USS Bennington) who worked for JL Hammett Co. at the time of his death.
