Ashleigh Barone Earns ECAC Co-Offensive Player of the Week

Sept. 10, 2008

LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. - Siena women's soccer freshman Ashleigh Barone (Clifton Park, N.Y./Shenendehowa) added another honor to her one-week-old résumé when she was named ECAC Co-Offensive Player of the Week yesterday. On Monday, Barone was named MAAC Offensive Player of the Week.

Barone scored three goals in her first two collegiate games, leading Siena to a 2-0 record. She scored the game-winner against Rhode Island when she intercepted a free kick outside the Rams' box and walked in alone against the goalkeeper. She netted both Siena goals in a 2-1 victory over Youngstown State on Sunday - first scoring on a volley at the near post and then 10 minutes later on a breakaway, placing her shot in the right corner of the net.

Since receiving MAAC and ECAC honors, Barone has added to her point total. She scored three goals and had an assist in yesterday's 4-0 win over UAlbany. Barone now has six goals and one assist in three games. Her 13 points and three game winning goals lead the league.

Siena returns to action on Friday at Vermont at 4 p.m.
