Ashleigh Barone Named MAAC Offensive Player of the Week

Sept. 8, 2008

LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. - Siena women's soccer freshman Ashleigh Barone (Clifton Park, N.Y./Shenendehowa) won MAAC Offensive Player of the Week honors as announced by the league earlier today.

"Ashleigh has demonstrated a tremendous work rate as a forward," said head coach Steve Karbowski. "Her timing and technique to finish her opportunities has been great. It's a great way to start to her career."

Barone scored three goals in her first two collegiate games, leading Siena to a 2-0 record. She scored the game-winner against Rhode Island when she intercepted a free kick outside the Rams' box and walked in alone against the goalkeeper. She netted both Siena goals in a 2-1 victory over Youngstown State on Sunday - first scoring on a volley at the near post and then 10 minutes later on a breakaway, placing her shot in the right corner of the net.

Barone leads the team with six points and two game-winning goals.

Siena hosts cross-town rival UAlbany on Tuesday at 4 p.m.
