Women's Soccer Announces 2008 Captains, Spring Dates
April 1, 2008
Loudonville, N.Y. - Siena women's soccer coach Steve Karbowski announced earlier today the appointments of rising senior midfielder Chelsea Maguire and defender Shana Brady as co-captains for the upcoming 2008 fall season. Karbowski also released the squad's spring schedule which is set to kick-off in less than a week. "Chelsea and Shana are well respected by their teammates and are excellent role models on and off the field and in the classroom," commented Karbowski. "They have already demonstrated the leadership of a captain this spring, welcoming the responsibility and we are excited to have them lead us in the fall." Maguire, a 5'4" rising senior from nearby Ballston Lake, N.Y. has been an anchor to the Saints' midfield corps over her first three seasons. She has excelled both on the field and in the classroom and has been named an All-MAAC Academic selection each of her three seasons. She started 17 of 18 contests last fall and ranked third on the team with 12 points including four goals. Most impressively, she tied for the team lead in game-winning goals with three. A 5'4" native of Brick, N.J., Brady, a rising senior defender, has also excelled in the classroom and was an All-MAAC Academic selection each of the past two seasons. She too started in 17 of 18 games last season and was a stalwart for the Green and Gold in their defensive end. For her career, she has played in 52 games, tallying two assists. The Saints will embark upon their spring schedule beginning on Saturday at New Hampshire. Game time is set for 3 p.m. The Green and Gold will play several more spring games this month, including one at home. Siena is set for an April 11 date at Hartford (7 p.m.) before their lone home game of the spring against local rival St. Rose at 3 p.m. on Sunday, April 13.
The Green and Gold will conclude spring action with a quartet of games throughout the day at Hofstra on April 19. The Saints will battle the host Pride along with Long Island and MAAC foes Iona and Manhattan. |
