Siena Women's Soccer Announces Captains and Spring Schedule
March 13, 2009
LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. - Siena women's soccer head coach Steve Karbowski announced the 2009 team captains and spring schedule this afternoon. Senior Christina Macera and juniors Cara Riley and Tabitha Tice will serve as team captains this coming season. The Saints will play five dates this spring starting with scrimmages at Hofstra on March 28. "Christina, Cara and Tabby are very dependable, mature and hard working individuals," said Karbowski. "They will provide leadership on the field with their consistent work ethic and off the field with the respect that they have developed from their teammates." Macera is the lone senior named captain. "Christina is well thought of by her teammates and coaching staff from her great attitude, high fitness level and great effort everyday for the past three years." Riley and Tice become the 3rd and 4th non-seniors to be named captain during the past 10 seasons. "Cara and Tabby have established themselves as key players during their first two seasons and have a competitive nature that will allow them to be effective leaders for the team." Spring Schedule Saturday, March 28 - scrimmages at Hofstra (vs. Wagner, Long Island University and Hofstra) Sunday, March 29 at Syracuse - 1 p.m. Sunday, April 5 - HOME vs. St. Rose - 4 p.m. Saturday, April 18 at U of New Hampshire - 1 p.m. Saturday, April 25 - Alumni Game @ Siena - 1 p.m. "We have put together a very competitive spring schedule using all five of the playing opportunities allowed," said Karbowski. "These dates will be valuable towards preparing for the fall season. Since we don't have our seniors with us for the spring many players will have a great opportunity to demonstrate their development with increased playing time. These games will also allow our coaching staff to see some different options as we continue to prepare for the fall."
Siena won a program record 13 games last season before losing in the MAAC Tournament semifinals. |
