Women's Soccer Beats Marist 2-1

Oct. 10, 2008

Final Stats

LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. - Sophomores Maria DeMatteo and Cara Riley each scored goals to lead Siena past Marist 2-1 Friday afternoon in Poughkeepsie, N.Y. The Saints get back on track after their first loss of the season to Canisius last weekend.

Siena's (9-1-2, 2-1) DeMatteo scored her fifth goal of the season in the 17th minute. She broke away from the defense at midfield and beat goalkeeper Anna Case in the lower right corner of the goal. DeMatteo has scored in four of the last six games.

Riley extended the lead to 2-0 in the 34th minute. Sophomore midfielder Tabitha Tice played a ball into the penalty box where Riley deflected it into the right side netting.

Marist (2-10, 0-3) cut the lead to one five minutes into the second half. Ashley Chase crossed a ball from the right side to Sara Hijazi who shot it past goalkeeper Laura Ettinger.

The Red Foxes outshot the Saints 13-5 but Ettinger made all three saves she had to.

Siena returns to action next Friday against Iona in Loudonville at 3 p.m.
