Erin DeMatteo scored two goals to lift the Siena women's soccer team to a 3-0 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference victory over Canisius College at Siena Field this afternoon in Loudonville, N.Y. The win was the first in league play for the Saints as they improved to 5-6 overall and 1-2 in the conference. Canisius fell to 1-7-1 on the season and 0-2 in MAAC play.

DeMatteo scored her first goal of the afternoon 19 minutes into the first half as she received a through ball from Erin Beam and found the lower right corner of the net to put the Saints up 1-0. Just minutes later Megan Helf gave Siena a two-goal advantage as she scored off a rebounded ball from a header by Corry Silon. The Saints took the two-goal lead into halftime.

Siena managed to put one more goal away before time would expire for a 3-0 shutout victory. DeMatteo at the 71:43 mark off a ball by Vicki Fenley for her second tally of the afternoon.

The Saints outshot the Golden Griffins 18-3.

The Saints will return to action this Sunday, October 12 as they host Niagara University. Game-time is scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
