Women's Soccer Drops First Game of Season to Canisius

Oct. 5, 2008

Final Stats

LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. - Siena women's soccer lost their first game of the season to Canisius 1-0 Sunday afternoon in Buffalo, N.Y. The Saints split their Western New York trip this weekend with a win at Niagara and today's loss to Canisius.

Canisius (7-1-3, 2-0) took the early lead less than two minutes into the game. Rebecca Shupe played a ball to Sylvia Kowalski who chipped her shot over goalkeeper Laura Ettinger for the 1-0 lead.

Siena (8-1-2, 1-1) fought to even the game for the remaining 88 minutes, but couldn't break through. The Saints outshot Canisius 14-10 in the game with eight different players recording shots. Golden Griffs goalkeeper Daniella Pettinari was up to the task, making five saves in her third shutout of the season. Ettinger made three saves in defeat.

This was the first time Siena was shutout since last season's 3-0 finale against Niagara.

The Saints return to action Friday afternoon at Marist at 4 p.m.
