Saints Shutout LIU 3-0

Sept. 26, 2008

Final Stats

LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. - Siena women's soccer shutout Long Island University 3-0 Friday afternoon in Loudonville. Sophomore Maria DeMatteo scored one goal and had two assists to help Siena remain undefeated.

Siena (7-0-1) took a 1-0 lead in the 27th minute when Ashleigh Barone played a ball from the end line across the goal where freshman Lindsay Tegas slammed it in the net.

The Saints added to their lead five minutes later on a goal by Chelsea Maguire. DeMatteo sent a cross from the left side to an unmarked Maguire who volleyed it into the goal. DeMatteo struck again just two minutes later when she received a ball from Tabitha Tice and broke away from the defense. DeMatteo took it to the right side of the box, waited out the diving goalkeeper Amy Johnson, and shot it in the open net.

The Saints scored all three of their goals in a seven minute span with DeMatteo having a hand in all of them.

LIU (6-2-1) outshot Siena 10-9 during the game, but freshman goalkeeper Laura Ettinger stood tall earning her second shutout of the season. She made six saves.
