Saints Shutout UAlbany 4-0

LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. - Freshman Ashleigh Barone scored three goals and had an assist in Siena's 4-0 win over cross-town rival UAlbany Tuesday afternoon on Siena Field. It was the first time since 2004 that Siena beat UAlbany. Siena (3-0) jumped out to an early lead in the 4th minute when senior Chelsea Maguire played a ball through the defense to Barone who placed her shot in the back of the net. The Saints added to their lead in the 18th minute when Stephanie DiMari deflected a shot past goalkeeper Cate Crenson off a shot by Lindsay Tegas. Siena dominated UAlbany (2-4) throughout. Freshman goalkeeper Laura Ettinger recorded her first career shutout for the Green and Gold, making four saves. Barone scored her second goal of the game in the 24th minute. Maguire sent a low service to the near post where Barone lifted the shot over Crenson. Crenson was peppered with shots in the first half, making four saves. Barone completed the hat-trick in the 53rd minute. Sophomore Cara Riley hit a shot off the crossbar that came back to Barone who finished it in the net. Barone has six goals and an assist through her first three collegiate games. Senior Shana Brady preserved the shutout for Ettinger in the 82nd minute when Teresa Boring headed a ball destined for the far post side netting, only to be cleared away by Brady. The Saints return to action on Friday when they play at Vermont at 4 p.m.
