Petruccelli's Five Points Not Enough as Women's Lax Falls 13-11

Hamden, Conn.- Freshman Stephanie Petruccelli notched a hat trick along with two assists but it was not enough as Quinnipiac held on for a 13-11 victory over Siena in a women's lacrosse game at Braves Field. The Braves (3-2) have won two straight games. Siena dropped to 0-6.

The Saints scored first, 1:50 into the game on an unassisted goal by Sarah Estes. The Braves answered quickly and furiously, scoring five goals in a 10-minute span. Annie Paquette, Jesse Rowley, Colleen Dooley, and Waldron all scored in Quinnipiac's five goal barrage. The Saints battled back and cut the lead to 4-3, on goals by Dana Sherrer (16:44) and Isabel Ohanian (13:53). At the 11:50 mark in the first half, Rowley scored her second of three goals in the game, and gave the Braves a 5-3 lead. Quinnipiac pushed the lead to 6-3, on a goal by Dooley with 9:57 remaining in the half. The two teams each scored two more goals in the half, and sent the Braves into halftime with an 8-5 lead.

Six minutes into the second half, Quinnipiac increased its lead to 9-5, on Dooley's third goal of the game. The Saints answered back with Kristen Sibilia's second goal of the game, scored with 19:24 remaining in the game. Quinnipiac rallied back with two goals in a four-minute span. Dooley and Rowley each scored for the Braves. The Saints cut the lead to three goals with goals by Estes (9:46) and Sibillia (7:21). Waldron put the game away for Quinnipiac with her third and final goal scored with 6:06 remaining in the game.

The Saints outshot the Braves 29-28. Freshman Mary-Elizabeth Dupelle made 12 saves between the pipes for the Green and Gold. Siena is back in action Thursday at Skidmore College against Wagner. Faceoff is slated for 2:00 pm.
