Siena Women's Lacrosse Team Named to the IWLCA Academic Honor Roll for 2005

June 24, 2005

LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. -The Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) announced the IWLCA Academic Honor Roll for the 2005 season, and Siena College along with two Saints women's lacrosse players made the list. To qualify for the IWLCA Academic Honor Roll, student-athletes must maintain a minimum grade point average (GPA) of at least 3.0 as a team and 3.0 or higher individually, and be a regular member of the varsity lacrosse team. Only 31 teams in the nation were represented on the IWLCA Honor Roll.

Graduates Katie Cruger (Cortlandt Manor, NY) and Joan Paul (Schenectady, NY) were named to the individual team. As a defensive player, Cruger managed to scoop 58 ground balls and caused 19 turnovers while receiving the starting nod in 62 games played during her career. Last season, Cruger shared co-captain duties with fellow classmate Mary Behr. Paul amassed a stellar career as a Saint, as she scored 27 goals, dished 15 assists and cradled 57 groundballs in 54 games played. Most recently, Paul was recognized for her academics by the 4.0 Club at Siena College.

"It's an honor to have our team and two players receive such great recognition for their hard work in the classroom and on the field", said head coach Jake McHerron.

Siena finished its best season in program history with an 11-7 overall mark after sharing the conference's regular-season title with Manhattan College.

Both Cruger and Paul graduated this spring.
