Jake McHerron Resigns Women's Lacrosse Post
May 8, 2008
Jake McHerron has resigned as the head women's lacrosse coach at Siena College following five years of service. The College will shortly begin a search for his replacement. "I want to thank the administration, coaches and players who have given me so much over my five years with the Siena lacrosse program," McHerron said. "I am grateful for the opportunity to have coached at Siena, and am proud of what the team has accomplished over the last five years. I have a six-year-old son and an eight-year-old daughter who I am looking forward to spending more time being a family. I wholeheartedly believe this team has the potential to succeed within the region, MAAC and ultimately the NCAA and I will forever remain a loyal member of the Siena community." McHerron was named MAAC co-Coach of the Year in 2004 after leading Siena to five victories in his first season. In his second season, McHerron guided the Saints to a share of the 2005 MAAC Regular-Season Championship and a MAAC Championship game appearance. Both accomplishments were firsts for the program which was founded in 1996. The 2005 team finished with an 11-7 overall record and a 6-1 mark in MAAC play. For his efforts, McHerron was named Siena College Bill Kirsch Coach of the Year. McHerron also served as head coach for a team of MAAC All-Stars who participated in the 2006 International Lacrosse Friendship Games in Japan. "Jake served Siena well over the last five years," director of athletics John D'Argenio said. "In addition to his coaching duties, he has been a valuable member of our athletic department staff working as a facility assistant." McHerron graduated from the University of Arizona with a bachelor's degree in Health Sciences in 1994. He went on to pursue a master's degree in Physical Education in 2001 from the University of Northern Colorado.
As a standout goalie for the University of Arizona, McHerron led the nation in save percentage in back-to-back years (1993 and 1994). He was named a 1993 USILA All-Star and was a WCLL All-Star in 1990, 1992 and 1993. McHerron was also an alternate in the North/South game in 1993. |
