April 11, 2002
LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. - Molly Sheehan scored six goals and four other Catamounts notched hat tricks as Vermont cruised past Siena 21-6 Thursday afternoon. With the win, Vermont improved to 5-1 while Siena fell to 0-8. Siena pulled within three late in the first half but Vermont scored the final four goals of the half to take an 11-4 halftime lead. Gina Purpura (Massapequa, N.Y./Massapequa) scored twice early in the second half to keep the Saints within striking distance, but the Catamounts scored the game's final eight goals to pull away. Vanessa Cox, Mackenzie Dean, Courtney LaMere and Nicole Rifenbary all scored three goals for the victors. LaMere added three assists. Goalie Kate McBride made five saves in the victory. Vermont outshot Siena 31-10. Siena's Massapequa connection led the way for the Saints as Purpura scored four goals, all assisted by Stephanie Petruccelli (Massapequa, N.Y./Massapequa). Ashley Kellerhouse (Saratoga Springs, N.Y./Saratoga) notched the first goal of her career as well. Siena heads west this weekend to face Canisius on Saturday and Niagara on Sunday.
