Women's Lacrosse Suffers 18-2 Setback Against Quinnipiac

April 2, 2003

Quinnipiac University sophomore midfielder Christy Smallman tied a school record with eight points, scoring three times and handing out five assists in an 18-2 victory over Siena by the Bobcats women's lacrosse team on Tuesday afternoon. With the loss the Saints dropped to 2-4 on the season.

The Bobcats jumped out of the blocks in a hurry, scoring five times in the opening four minutes. Amy Willis sandwiched a pair of goals around tallies from Paquette, Smallman and Kristen Holzer. Siena answered with a goal by Isabel Ohanian to trim the lead to four, but the Bobcats scored the final three goals of the half to carry an 8-1 advantage into halftime.

Gina Purpura scored the first goal of the second half for the Saints, but the Bobcats rolled off the final 10 goals of the contest. Paquette recorded three of those markers, while Lauren Eagan and Jennifer Larson each contributed a pair of tallies. Willis, Kate Danowski and Smallman also chipped in one goal in the second half.

Goalkeeper Megan Matthews turned away 13 shots in the contest for Quinnipiac. Mary-Elizabeth Dupelle stopped 14 shots for the Saints.

The Saints return to action this Saturday when they host Le Moyne.
