Women's Lax Loses Heartbreaker to Howard

March 30, 2002

LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. - Melissa Bryant scored with 4:53 remaining to give Howard a 9-8 win over Siena Saturday afternoon on the Siena campus. The win was Howard's first in nine games this season while the Saints fell to 0-3.

Siena took a 6-4 lead into halftime and led 7-5 with just under 22 minutes remaining. Howard scored three goals in a row to take an 8-7 lead before Sarah Estes (Scotia, N.Y./Scotia) tied the game with 14 minutes left. After Bryant scored what would be the game-winning goal, Siena created several scoring opportunities but the Saints were unable to convert.

Chizoba Egbuonu led the Bison with four goals and two assists. Kathleen Theodore notched two goals as well.

Estes led the Saints with five goals. With 65 career goals, she is now just three goals away from setting a new school scoring record. Gina Purpura (Massapequa, N.Y./Massapequa) added a goal and an assist.

Siena continues a four-game homestand with a matchup against Quinnipiac on Tuesday. Game time is slated for 3:00 p.m.
