Loudonville, N.Y. - The Siena women's golf team sits atop the leaderboard following the opening round of the 2008 MAAC Women's Golf Championships begun this morning in Lake Buena Vista, Fla. The Saints hold a sizeable 11 stroke advantage over second place Fairfield.

Siena shot a solid first round of 322 compiled from its five golfer's scores, while Fairfield sat well behind at 333.

Senior captain Melissa Agostinelli concluded the opening day pacing the field with a top overall score of 78. Teammate Bridget Carr was right on her heels, following a round of 79. In all, Siena golfers boasted six of the top eight scores.

Fairfield's Courtney Richardson matched Agostinelli shot for shot in tying her for the overall lead, while Christiana Destefano tied Carr for third at 79.

Round Two tees off tomorrow morning.
