Siena Field Hockey Set to Host Breast Cancer Awareness Game
Oct. 27, 2008
Loudonville, N.Y. - The Siena field hockey team will host its Coaches vs. Cancer Breast Cancer Awareness game on Halloween afternoon Friday against Lock Haven at 3:30 p.m. Throughout the week and prior to the game, members of the team will be looking to raise money and awareness with all proceeds benefitting the American Cancer Society. "The team is really excited to show their support for breast cancer awareness," said assistant head coach Kaitlyn Skelley. "We hope that the local community comes out Friday to show their support and help us defeat one of the nation's major killers." Fans will have a number of ways throughout the week to show their support through contributions made. The main way to do this will be through the Saints' "short corners-athon". Fans can choose to pledge a fixed dollar amount for each corner the Saints take during the game against Lock Haven. Additionally, if fans wish, they can also make a one-time payment as well. Members of the field hockey team will also be going around the community looking for donations. Additionally, the team will be going around the Siena College campus throughout the week collecting loose change, with those contributions being added to the final total sent to the American Cancer Society. During warm-ups for Friday's game, the team will be wearing specially made pink Siena field hockey t-shirts with a Breast Cancer ribbon inscribed with the word "hope" on the back. The shirts have been previously bought by members of the community who made donations and will be given to them following the game. For more information on the Saints' Breast Cancer Awareness game and to make a pledge, please call Siena field hockey assistant coach Kaitlyn Skelley at (518) 783-4129 or at kskelley@siena.edu. Additionally, fans attending the game will have the opportunity to make any last minute donations or pledges prior to the game by seeking a team representative located in the press box.
Since 1993, the American Cancer Society has teamed up with coaches of various NCAA sports to raise money for cancer research, education and patient services. Nearly 400 coaches from across the country have committed to this effort, raising over $30 million since the program's inception. |
