Siena Field Hockey Inks Five

LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. - Siena College field hockey head coach Bill Davidson announced today the signing of five student-athletes to national letters of intent who will enroll in the college beginning this fall. Shannon Delaney, Kelly Johansmeyer, Morgann McCarthy, Raenee Ritter and Olivia Whelly will comprise the Class of 2013. "We are extremely excited about this incoming freshman class," remarked Davidson. "We are bringing in student-athletes who will compete immediately for playing time and we are looking for them to step up and bring intensity which will help our team in the long run." A local product from nearby Menands, N.Y., Delaney earned four letters in field hockey at Shaker High. Delaney had a decorated high school career capped off with numerous accolades her senior year. She was a NYS Scholar Athlete, Section II Class A First Team All-Star and a member of the Empire State games Adirondack Field Hockey team to name a few. Johansmeyer, a product out of Greenfield, Mass., was a multi-sport athlete at Mohawk Trail Regional where she earned four letters in field hockey and lacrosse and three in basketball. A midfielder, Johansmeyer was an integral part of Mohawk's 2008 Division II Western Massachusetts Championship. A 2007-08 A League All-Star, she was also a Western Massachusetts First Team All-Star, member of the Massachusetts Top-60 Team and recipient of the 2008 Massachusetts Girls and Women in Sports Award. A native of Massapequa, N.Y., McCarthy played forward for two years on the Massapequa field hockey team. In both 2007 and 2008 she was named All-County after earlier being named Rookie of the Year. Additionally, she was an Academic Achievement Scholar Athlete. Ritter, who hails from Port Crane, N.Y., earned three letters in both field hockey and outdoor track at Harpursville High. A captain her senior year, she was a First Team All-Star in her league after earning Second Team honors her junior year.
Whelly joins the program by way of Red Hook High in Red Hook, N.Y. where she earned four letters at midfield and forward as a member of the field hockey team. A member of the Capital Region Futures team, Whelly also was the recipient of the Breakout Player of the Year award. Additionally, she led her team to a Section IX Championship and was a First Team Poughkeepsie Journal All-Star. The quintet begins play when the 2009 season opens on August 29 at Siena Turf Field against Radford here in Loudonville. |
