Saints Drop NEC Opener to Robert Morris, 3-1

Oct. 10, 2008

Final Stats

Robert Morris scored three second half goals to rally from a halftime deficit in defeating the Siena field hockey team 3-1 in both squads' Northeast Conference opener this afternoon in Moon Township, Pa. Freshman forward Jenn Reich provided the offense for the Saints, recording her second goal in three games.

Despite being out-shot by Robert Morris (4-8, 1-0) by an 11-1 margin in the opening stanza, it was the Saints (0-10, 0-1) that took advantage of its lone scoring opportunity. Reich took a feed from teammate Lisa Heimerle and fired it home for her second collegiate goal in giving Siena its first lead of the season.

But the Colonials fought back in the second half, propelled by three goals including two in a seven second span.

Jessica Charles got Robert Morris on the board in the 41st minute to tie the game at one. Charles put the Colonials up for good just seven seconds later off a penalty corner. Ally McGuire added a late insurance goal for Robert Morris to pad the final score at 3-1.

Robert Morris held the Saints without a shot in the second half en route to a19-1 margin in shots, while harboring a 12-3 edge in penalty corners. Senior goalie Renee Clavette was stout in the cage, shutting out the Colonials on seven saves in the first half and finished with ten stops overall.

The Saints conclude a busy three game week when they return to Loudonville for their home conference opener on Sunday against Saint Francis (Pa.) Game time is set for 12 noon.
