Final Stats

Syracuse, N.Y. - Chandrea Jones and Fantasia Goodwin went off for double-doubles to lead Syracuse (11-1) to a 78-59 victory over the Siena women's basketball team this evening at the Carrier Dome. Siena senior Laura Menty led the charge for the Saints with 19 points. Siena (4-8) guards Melissa Manzer and Shondaya Burrell also scored double-figures. With the victory, the Orange snap a four game losing streak to Siena in its rivalry.

Siena saw its largest lead (15-11) at the 13:50 mark in the first half when Manzer connected on a deep 3-pointer marking her first of three in the contest. With the baskets, she earned sole possession of sixth place on the program's career 3-point field goal chart surpassing Janel Hollar '99.

Syracuse responded from this deficit with a 28-7 run over the next 12 minutes taking a commanding 41-22 advantage off a Goodwin lay-up with 1:52 on the clock. Goodwin finished with 19 points and 14 rebounds.

The Orange enjoyed a 43-28 edge at intermission. Syracuse sophomore forward Nicole Michael scored 17 of her season-high 19 points in the first stanza.

The Saints went on a 15-4 run midway through the second half cutting the Syracuse advantage to 51-45 with 13:15 remaining. Siena's stingy defensive efforts contributed to scoring surge as it held the Orange without a field goal through the opening five minutes of the half. Syracuse connected on just six field goals in the second half, however it found its niche going 22-34 from the line.

This was the closest Siena would get as Syracuse outscored the Saints 16-6 through the next eight minutes earning a comfortable lead. Jones exploded for a game-high 24 points, and went 11-12 from the free-throw line in the second half.

Menty was a perfect 5-5 from the charity stripe for the second straight game. She extended her consecutive free-throw scoring streak to 17.

Burrell dished out a career-high six assists to go with her 12 points. Manzer finished with 15 on 6-10 shooting.

The Saints return to action on Jan. 6 for a home contest with league rival Canisius at the Times Union Center. Tip off is slated for 3 p.m.
