Angel Elderkin enters her fourth season as an assistant coach for the Saints and will coordinate all facets of recruiting and oversee academics. Elderkin was a guard for the University of South Maine women's basketball team and played on the softball team from 1995-1999. She was a member of the Division III NCAA Tournament during each of her four years.
Bringing two years of recruiting experience to the program, Elderkin joined the accomplished Siena staff in 2001.
She was an integral part of signing this year's freshman class that includes all- Melissa Manzer, Heather Stec, Laura Menty and Liga Alpe-Luka from Lativia.
After spending two seasons at East Tennessee State, Elderkin served as a special assistant to the head coach. There, she oversaw many aspects of the women's basketball operation, including the coordination of summer camps and working with the compliance office.
As a former player, Elderkin has the ability to discuss the strengths of the program with recruits and lay out the opportunities Siena has to offer its student-athletes. Elderkin was a four-year letterwinner at the University of Southern Maine, where she led the Huskies to three conference championships and an astounding 104-15 overall record. In 1998, the Huskies was the national runner-up. She was also a two-time recipient of the William B. Wise Scholar-Athlete. In 1997, she was named to the All-Little East Honor Roll. Most recently, her 1997-98 Husky team was inducted into the New England Hall of Fame (September 2004)
In addition to her recruiting responsibilities at Siena, Elderkin also oversees academics for the Saints. Working closely with Academic Advisor Susan Yund, she helps coordinate study hall and tutoring, while monitoring the academic progress for the student-athletes. Her primary on-court assignment will be coaching Siena's guards.
Elderkin earned her bachelor's degree in sociology from Southern Maine in 1999 with a minor in education. She received her master of arts in physical education and exercise science from East Tennessee State in 2001.
