Saints Have Nine Named to Tennis All-Academic Teams
April 23, 2007 Siena placed nine student-athletes on the men's and women's MAAC Tennis All-Academic teams. The combined total was the second most among member institutions. Mike Aliotta, Nino Alivodic, Jeremy Deuel, Scott George and Jose Loren were named to the men's team. Karina Davis, Jessica Ferrara, Sugam Langer and Molly Scullin earned recognition on the women's side. Aliotta, a senior history major from Westfield, Mass., carries a 3.45 GPA in history. Alivodic, a junior accounting major from Albany holds a 3.21 GPA. Deuel, a sophomore political science major from Syracuse, has earned a 3.2 GPA, while posting 10 wins at top singles. George, a junior history education major from West Charlton, N.Y., made the cut with a 3.63 GPA and Loren a junior marketing and management major from the Bronx has a 3.27 GPA. "We are very proud of our accomplishments on the court, but take even more pleasure in what are student-athletes achieve in the classroom," head men's tennis coach Jim Serbalik said. "We have a long history of recruiting and educating quality young men who attend Siena primarily to get a great education." Davis, a junior biology major from Fayetteville, has a 3.55 GPA while playing #3 singles for the Saints. Ferrara, a sophomore business major from Schenectady, led the way with a 3.96 GPA. Langer, a senior political science major from Clifton Park owns a 3.44 GPA and Scullin, a senior English major from Liverpool, rounded out Siena's representatives with a 3.41 GPA. "Our goal is to achieve great success athletically and academically," women's tennis head coach Tim O'Brien said. "We have a quality group of young women who are determined to excel in both areas." A total of 49 student athletes comprise the 2007 MAAC Men's and Women's Tennis All-Academic Teams. To be eligible for the MAAC All-Academic Team, a student-athlete must complete two semesters at their institution and hold a cumulative GPA above 3.20 on a 4.0 scale.
