Colgate Sweeps Men's Tennis 7-0 in Non-Conference Match
April 5, 2007 Colgate coasted to a 7-0 win over Siena on Wednesday in men's tennis action at the Sanford Field House in Hamilton, N.Y. The Raiders remain undefeated at home this season, with a 3-0 record, and move to 6-9 overall. Siena falls to 6-7 on the season with their second straight loss. Colgate swept the doubles matches and won all six singles matches in straight sets. Seniors Chris Innes and Marshall Wheeler handed Jeremy Deuel and Nick Rutherford an 8-6 loss at No. 1 doubles. Sophomore Martin MacIntyre and junior Tyler Deck won their fourth straight doubles match as they topped Stefan Putyera and Chris Auffredou 8-2 at No. 2 doubles. The freshman pair of John Nogueras and Michael Yassky defeated Kevin Gioia and Jay Godbole at No. 3 doubles, taking the match to a tiebreaker, 8-7 (8-6). MacIntyre won his second straight No. 1 singles match, downing Deuel, 6-1, 6-2, and teammate Innes captured No. 2 singles with 6-0, 7-5 wins over Rutherford. Wheeler triumphed over Putyera, 6-0, 6-1 at No. 3 singles and Deck handed Gioia, 6-0, 6-3 losses at No. 4 singles. At No. 5 singles, Nogueras downed Auffredou, 6-1, 6-3 and Yassky dominated Mike Aliotta 6-2, 6-0 at No. 6 singles. The Saints return to action at Niagara next Saturday.
