Liam Welsh Named to All MAAC Second Team
Nov. 2, 2006 Loudonville, N.Y. - Junior Liam Welsh (West Town, N.Y./Minisink Valley) was named to the men's soccer All-MAAC Second Team today as voted on by the league's 10 coaches. Five Saints joined secured a spot on the 2006 All Academic team. Welsh started all 18 games for the Saints this season. He tallied five points, including a game winning goal at Holy Cross (9/10). The 2004 MAAC Rookie of the Year has missed only two starts in 53 appearances for the Saints over three seasons. Kevin Bendl (Manhasset Hills, N.Y./Chaminade), Kyle Christiansen (Troy, N.Y./Tamarac), Zach Gosse (Oakdale, N.Y./Connetquot), Patrick Henry (LaGrangeville, N.Y./Arlington) and Brian Woodfield (Clifton Park, N.Y./Shenendehowa) were named to the MAAC All-Academic Team. To be eligible for the MAAC All-Academic team, a student-athlete must hold a 3.20 grade point GPA on a 4.0 scale and have completed at least two semesters of collegiate work. The Siena men finished the 2006 season with a 3-13-2 overall mark and a 2-6-1 record in league play.
