Siena Soccer Teams Up in the Community
Sept. 9, 2009
LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. - Siena men's and women's soccer teams will volunteer at MVP Health Care's free youth soccer clinic on Saturday, September 12 from 2-4 p.m. at Bethlehem's Soccerplex in Glenmont. Olympic gold medalist and U.S. Women's Soccer star Abby Wambach will lead the activities which include a skills clinic, interactive demo, a Q&A session, and a raffle prize drawing. The clinic is full with 600 kids signed up. Players and coaches from both the men's and women's soccer teams will help coach. The women's team (1-1) won a program record 13 games and made a MAAC Tournament semifinal appearance last year. The men's team (2-1) enjoyed a turnaround season under rookie head coach Gareth Elliott last year. The Saints went 9-8-1 and won their most MAAC games (7) since joining the conference in 1989. They too made the MAAC Tournament semifinals. Siena continues its partnership with MVP Health Care's KidPower program. This summer, men's lacrosse goalkeeper and All-American Honorable Mention Brent Herbst participated in a shooting demo with Gary Gait and a group of women's lacrosse players helped coach at MVP's youth lacrosse clinic at Siena Turf Field.
