Sean Kelly Named to 2003 MAAC Men's Soccer Preseason All-MAAC Team
Aug. 20, 2003 Sophomore Sean Kelly (Wappingers Falls, N.Y./John Jay) was the only Saint named to the 2003 MAAC Men's Soccer Preseason All-MAAC Team announced today. In addition, the Saints were picked to finish fifth in the conference in a preseason poll voted on by the league's 10 head coaches. Loyola College, which has earned 10 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference men's soccer regular season titles and 10 championship crowns since 1989, has been selected once again to win the league crown this season. Kelly, a defender, played in all but one game for the Saints last season, recording one goal. He was honored as a MAAC All-Rookie Team selection for his efforts. Saint Peter's Rinaldo Chambers was selected the Preseason Player of the Year. Six of the MAAC's 10 schools are represented on the Preseason All-MAAC Team. Siena finished with 60 points in the poll. Loyola topped the list with 91 points, three points ahead of second-place Fairfield University (88). Marist College was picked third with 75 points and Saint Peter's College finished in fourth just four points shy of Marist (71). Siena was followed by Niagara University (49), Canisius College (44), Rider University (32), Manhattan College (22) and Iona College (18).
The Saints kick-off the 2003 season at home against Oneonta on Tuesday, September 2. Game-time is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
